Kilimanjaro Rongai Route 6 Days 5 Nights
Day 1: Arrival – Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro international airport as per your flight arrival time. Met by a representative from wonder route adventure who will drive you to your hotel for dinner and overnight at Mount Meru Game Lodge.
Day: 2 Arusha – Rongai Gate (1950m) – Simba Cave Camp (2625m)
Breakfast at the lodge then depart along with trekking team (professional licenced mountain guide, cook and porters to Marangu gate for trekking entry formalities .
After clearance then drive to Rongai trailhead. Start the trek gently through a forest. The trail is not at all steep but is rather a gently hike through beautiful country. In this day destination will be at the 1st cave which is about 2625m above sea level. There is no hut at this cave only wooden table with benches and toilet facility. Dinner and overnight at Simba cave camp. distance is 8 km, it takes approximately 3-4 hours, the scenery is mountain forest.
Day 3: Simba Cave Camp 92625m) – Kikelelwa Cave (3600m)
The tail continues up towards kibo, passing second cave 3450m) end route, and reaching kikelelwa cave at about 3600m. The habitat here is moorlands and the distance is 10km which takes about 5-6 hours Dinner and overnight at kikelelwa cave.
Day 4: Kikelelwa cave (3600)- Mawenzi Tarangire camp (4330m)
You are now in the alpine desert zone after breakfast start trek toward mawenzi Tarn camp a short but steep climb up grassy slopes offers superb views of this wilderness area. The vegetation zone ends shortly before you reach your next camp at mawenzi tarn which situated behealth the towering spires of mawenzi. After a morning trek, the afternoon will be spent for acclimatization and exploration of the area. Distance is 5 km, which takes about 3 -4 hours Dinner and overnight at mawenzi Tarn (4330m)
Days: 5: Mawenzi Tarn – School Hut (4715m)
After breakfast, continue ascending around alpine desert on the east side of kibo crossing the saddle between mawenzi and kibo, it takes 4- 5 hours to reach school hut. Today is a day for more rest and preparation for the final ascent, which begins at midnight. Dinner and overnight at school hut camp.
Day 6: Summit Attempt, School Hut (4715m)- Uhuru Peak (5895)
At midnight after taking some coffee and biscuits with light preparations, you shuttle off into the night start leaving school hut to uhuru peak, the first section of the trail consists of a rocky path to the Hans Meyer cave (5150m) also a good resting sort from there then the path go zigzag up to Gillman’s point (5681m), which is located on the crater rim. From Gillman’s point you 2 chance to encounter snow all the way up to Uhuru peak (5895m) above sea level. You are now on the highest point of Africa .
The habitat and terrain of this area is stone screed up to the peak with ice – capped summit. The distance is 21 km which takes approximately 12 – 16 hours. After some photos and signing at this point you start descending to Horombo camp (3720) dinner and overnight at Horombo camp.
Day 7: Horombo Camp- Marangu Gate
After breakfast you continue your descent passing, the Mandara Hut down to the Marangu gate for clearance and after being awarded certificate as sign of conquering the highest peak in Africa then depart to Mount Meru game lodge Arusha dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast in the morning, depart to Kilimanjaro international airport to catch you flight back home.
