Rubondo National Park

Rubondo national park is home to the more elusive treasures, you find this unspoilt wilderness in the southwest corner of the large, shallow lake Victoria, bordered by Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya . the hilly island has some open area – mostly papyrus swamps and long grass plain – but over 80% is dominated  by forest rubondo is more than a water wonderland. Deserted sandy beaches nestle against  a cloak of virgin forest, where dappled  bucksbuck more fleet yet silent through a maze of tamarinds, wild palms, and sycamore figs strung with a cage  of trailing taparoots. The shaggy- coated aguatic sitatunga, else where he most elusive of antelopes, is reamarkabley  easily observed, not only in the papyrus swamps it normally inhabits  but also in the forest interior.

Ninety percent of the park is humid forest. The remainder ranges from open grassland to lakeside payrus beds. A number of indigenous mammal species hippo , vervet monkey, genet, and mangoose share their protected habitat with introduced species such as chimpanzee, black and white colobus elephant and giraffe, all of which benefit form rubondo in accessibility.

Birds are everywhere. Rubondo does  have diversity of bird species such as malachite kingfisher, paradise flycatcher, and also water birds including herons, storks, and spoonbill.
